Tegucigalpa. March 17. Members of the extreme right organization FUUD from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras (UNAH), shot live ammunition and beat students from other organizations who were protesting against the stealing of ballot boxes and election material that will be used in the upcoming elections, where students representatives would be renewed.

The incident took place on the campus of the University located in Tegucigalpa. Four members of the Frente de Reforma Universitaria (FRU) were severely beaten and had to be transferred to the medical center of the University.

After the terrible fact, the police proceeded to clear the campus facilities. During the investigations carried out hours after officers found some 10 shell casings of 9 mm. According to witnesses, the shells would have been fired by FUUD militants to intimidate students.

National media says that the student elections will be postponed until there are guarantees of security and credibility.

The Frente Unido Universitario Democratico FUUD is recognized by its repeated acts of violence, as well as fascist ideological affiliation. In the 1980’s FUUD took power by using military and paramilitary group forces that were in turn responsible of disappearances of hundreds of Hondurans in a cold war context.
