Extraordinary event for Xiomara Castro’s launching of presidential candidature

Santa Barbara. 1 July 2012. An enormous party occurred in the province of Santa Bárbara where the LIBRE Party formalized the launch of candidacy to the Presidency of former first lady Xiomara Castro de Zelaya.

Thousands of partisans and militants commuted towards the northwestern province to witness an event that is considered by many marks a benchmark in political history of Honduras.

In an unprecedented event, the Hondurans attended massively and by their own means, convened by the National Front of People´s Resistance and the LIBRE Party.

As a preamble, on Saturday night out an artistic act was carried in the center of the city which counted with the participation of renowned artists in Resistance, the same continued Sunday morning, in the venue of the main event.

Approximately at 10: 30 in the morning Xiomara Castro made her entry, accompanied by her husband, the national coordinator of the FNRP and LIBRE Party, Manuel Zelaya, and their closest relatives and the national coordination committee of the LIBRE Party.

Xiomara was welcomed with applauses and affection of the large crowd that was waiting for her and proclaimed her as the next President of Honduras, then began the political act which involved as well as the coordinators of the five internal currents of LIBRE, special guests, Manuel Zelaya Rosales, her daughter Hortensia Zelaya Castro, culminating the event with a speech by the candidate.

During her speech, Mrs. Castro invited the Honduran people to join the project of national re-foundation and construction of a Socialist and democratic society. At the end of her speech, Castro expressed her desire and extended an invitation to be accompanied in the presidential “formula” by the union and popular leader Juan Barahona, the Sub coordinator of the FNRP and the LIBRE Party.
