Head of UNAH workers union found murdered

Olancho. August 22, 2012. In the bottom of a well, the lifeless body of the President of the Union of Workers of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras (SITRAUNAH), Juan de Dios Saenz, was found.

The discovery was made on Wednesday morning, after relatives of Saénz alarmed for not being able to communicate with him, decided to go to his house looking for him and finding in it traces of blood and several shell casings from a firearm, reason for which they notified the authorities.

At the scene, members of the Fire Department attended verifying the scene and after following the trail of blood they found the body of the union worker in the bottom of a well.

According to the police report, the body had several bullet wounds, with no established motive of the crime.

Speaking to a local radio station, Martha Saenz, the victim's sister, said that he now lived with a son whom she identified as Johan, who had arrived in the city four days ago in search of employment and had addiction problems.

She further stated that at the time of the discovery of her brother, Johan was not home and Saénz vehicle was gone, reason why she didn’t hesitate to hold him responsible of the murder of union leader.

However, In the afternoon, the Atlantida police captured Johan Saenz, who said he left the scene for fear as he recognized the perpetrators of the crime, however he said several contradictions and he was transferred to the National Criminal Research Direction of Juticalpa, where investigations continue.

At the time of his arrest the young man was driving a car property of SITRAUNAH, he was also found in possession of a plasma TV and a gun, the tests will determine if it is the murder weapon.
